Monster Taming
If you choose to tame a monster instead of fighting it and harvesting its parts, you have the option - once the creature has been domesticated - to take parts like fur and trimmed claws for use in crafting or even selling.
There are currently nineteen monster types out roaming Astoria that can be tamed. Most of them can be used in the Monster Husbandry minigame for gathering and/or breeding, but a few are exclusively mounts. The average character can have up to 16 monsters, and a Beastmaster belonging to House Titan may have 24. Additionally, while all characters automatically get five tries to tame a monster, all Beastmasters get 5 rerolls. (This stacks with the Scroll of Stamina item, which allows anyone 2 rerolls.) You may only tame one monster per check.
You will need one monster treat per try. If you run out of monster treats, the monster will get bored and leave, so be sure to stock up! Chocobo are an exception addressed at the end.

Once you’ve tamed your monsters, they can be sold live, killed for parts, or kept for gathering and breeding.
Four monsters can be kept as IC mounts:
- Aeronite (air travel, outside of the city)
- Behemoths (ground only)
- Chocobos (ability depends on color, see the breeding page)
- Orobons (water only)
