Lea runs, the muscles in his legs and lungs in his chest burning with exertion but there is a wide smile on his face and a brightness in his eyes, the irises of which are currently a bright orange. He looks over to the side, sees a large beast about a hundred metres away, then looks to the other side to see a similar massive form closing in on the distance as if in a pincer attack. Clever boys.
Fur the colour of blood-soaked midnight, fiery manes that crest the ridge of highly muscled backs, tails spiked like a mace and growing deadly black horns. These are Rom and Rem, the juvenile behemoth pups that Lea had found only the previous season. He skids to a stop, drops to all fours and rolls out the way as Rem charges past him. A breathless laugh escapes as he uses the momentum to clamber to his feet, turning in time to dodge Rom, one hand gripping the mane as he swings himself over the thick neck as if hugging the great beast.
They run together, Lea with his tackling hug to Rom's neck and Rem bounding along besides them both until they come to one of the pair's favourite watering holes. Only this time they aren't alone. Warm breath snorts from three pairs of nostrils, three pairs of bright orange eyes tracking the slow, viscous movements of a group of Flans polluting the edges of the pool. Lea can feel the behemoth shift impatiently under his thighs, the drag of claws readily for purchase in the dirt, "Whoah, whoah, whoah."
Lea the human prefers not to kill the monsters and beasts that roam these lands, indeed this very region is a sanctuary that he offers up to all. However right now he is shot through with adrenaline and the mood of the behemoth brothers; the thrill of the hunt is not far beneath the surface of his skin, prickling there like instinct as it does for the beast. He slides from the back of the behemoth with a feral grunt, whip cracking out from his hip and into his hand. Both Rom and Rem take that as a good sign and charge into the gelatinous forms of two Flans, leaving the centre three to turn their dripping eye sockets towards Lea.
"COME ON THEN! GRYAH!" Lea gives out a series of ape-like deep hoots and flicks the whip towards the first flan. But like his bestial counterparts in this fight, the physical attacks make little purchase. Lea can see the frustration building in his boys, knowing that they have yet to master their own internal magicks. As he whistles to them both an encouragement the first flan squelches up to land a few wet slaps on Lea's chest. It stings a little but he laughs back into the amorphous creature's features, "Is that all ya got?"
Lea, again on instinct, brings his knee up into the centre of the gooey mass. Again there is little effect. He shakes his head to get smarter, as another set of wet slaps meet his flesh. He dances back to cast Earth. The magicks hit the spot causing the Flan to quake, quite literally, but it then quickly turns back on its base to slink away. There is a number of frustrating rounds where neither side appears to cause damage, with this flan and onto the next. The brothers eventually, through sheer brute force manage to defeat the four that it appears Lea cannot. He does however manage to defeat one of the group, through a series of well timed casts and dodges.
When the Flans are all defeated, Lea falls to his back, exhausted and extremely sticky. Rom and Rem move to either side of him and also hunker down, their haunches flanking Lea as he feels and smells the deep breaths of the beasts surrounding him, "Ugh. I want a dip in that pool now, never mind a drink, dunno about you guys..."
